Somewhere between
the meeting you had yesterday and the appointment you need to make
for tomorrow, lay aside the thin sliver of time you need for yourself.
Native Wilmingtonian Wendi Watson Miller, with her husband Ray,
have just the place for you to tend to that thin sliver.
When you walk into Fa-Sol-Latte
Coffee House, located at The Liberty Center, just past Duncan Road
on Kirkwood Highway, you feel the overwhelming need to devote yourself
to the lost art of relaxation. Unlike the somewhat impersonal coffee
shop chains and convenience stores, Fa-Sol-Latte Coffee House is
a one-of-a-kind haven. “I come here to help out a local place…and
I like their coffee,” says Joe, just one of the many “regulars”
already frequenting Fa-Sol-Latte. Don’t be fooled by the words
“Coffee House.” While you will find some of the best
coffee and espresso drinks around, you need to stop and refresh
yourself with a fresh fruit tea smoothie or try one of their iced-blended
Italian “Frescante” milkshakes. Fa-Sol-Latte Coffee
House also features flavored, locally roasted coffee from the Pike
Creek Coffee Roasterie, both as a “flavor of the day”
and for retail purchase.
It is no accident that the name
of the establishment has a musical tone to it, or that musical scales
and song lyrics encircle the main dining area and the beverages
are sized in quarter note, half note, and whole note. Miller, when
not making one of her signature lattes, can be found traveling to
area churches and across the country as part of a gospel trio, The
Duffields.
“I want the feeling of the
place to say ‘Here. Have a seat. Slow down,’”
Miller says. And with the warm coffee-and-cream colored walls, comfortable
leather sofa and overstuffed chairs, and songs from the Great American
Songbook in the background, you just can’t help but want to
settle in and stay awhile. “I want people to come in here
and feel better when they leave,” Miller says.
On a more refined scale, Fa-Sol-Latte
Coffee House celebrates not only music, but the people who enjoy
it, in a comfortable environment that quietly invites the visitor
to stay awhile.
